With a film adaptation of the comic book character The Punisher still on the horizon, we asked director Scott Frank to clarify his thoughts about the character.
Frank said, “I am working on a Punisher sequel, but the story is different, so the title is different.
I think we are in a different time.
This is a story about people who have to figure out what to do with the information they’ve been given, so I feel that’s different than a comic book story.”
Frank added that he’s “definitely not” telling any specific details about the film, but did tell EW, “It’s a story that’s going to be a very different and interesting experience than the original one.
And I don’t think it will be the same story.”
Frank added that the film will be a “big departure” from the original series, and that “the new Punisher will be completely different from the old one.”
The Punishers movie is slated to open on July 6, 2019, with Frank telling EW, “”This is a very exciting time in the Punisher history and one of the things we’re excited about is going to give the Punishers a bigger, bigger role in the MCU.
So this is one of those things where we have to make sure that the Punishings will continue to be relevant and relevant for the MCUs and not just the movie.
“Frank also teased that the movie will be set in New York City, where Frank said the film “seeks to explore the darker side of the city.
